Remove unmanaged layers one by one

Objective

Depending on how you worked with your HR solution so far, you may have layers in your solution which need to be removed during the update. Layers are created if you make personalized customizations to your HR solution. Please ask your IT expert if this applies to you.
If you are not completely sure you made an individual customization to your HR solution which you want to keep, we recommend you remove layers to be sure you can always benefit from all features of the newest solution update.
In case you need to remove layers, this page shows you how it works.

This guide shows you how to do so without using any external tools, for every layer one by one. We highly recommend removing the layers in bulk using the external program XrmToolBox, since removing the layers in bulk is much faster and easier. You find a guide on how to do so here.

Prerequisites

  • You have a working Hubdrive system which you are currently updating
  • This procedure is only recommended if there are no customizations in your system done by you or a partner

Click Through

  • Open make.powerapps.com
  • Log in with your Admin credentials
  • Click on Solutions on the left
    • Make sure the filter is set to show All
  • In the list, open Dynamics HR Management Flows
  • Find the workflow for which you want to remove unmanaged layers and click on the three dots next to the workflow's name
  • There, go to Advanced and select See solution layers (screenshot)
  • If an unmanaged layer exists, 'Unmanaged layer' is displayed in the Solution column for the layer
  • Select the layer, and then on the top bar, select Remove active customizations (screenshot)
  • Repeat those steps for every workflow for which you want to remove unmanaged layers.
    • Be careful to not remove layers from customization you still want to use, otherwise those customizations will not work anymore.

Result

After following all these steps, active layers are removed from your flow solution and you can continue with your system update.
