Copy and overwrite Environments

Objective

In the instance that you have a test and a production environment you might want to make sure that your test environment is regularly updated to the current state of the production environment without needing new licenses from Hubdrive. To do this you can follow the steps described in this tutorial.

Process

System Admin
Creates a backup of the Production environment
System Admin
Overwrites the Test environment with the backup
System Admin
Enters Test environment key

Prerequisites

  • 2 Environments (1 Test, 1 Production)
  • Licenses for Production and Test environment separately stored (Not only entered in environment)
  • You are the Admin

Click Through

  • Start in the Admin Center
  • Click on Environments
  • Select your Test Environment
  • In the top-ribbon click on Convert to sandbox
    • If the Type of the Test environment is already set to Sandbox, leave it that way
  • Now select your Production Environment (Screenshot)
  • In the top-ribbon click on Backup & Restore (This option might be hidden behind the ellipsis (3 dots))
  • Click on Restore or manage
  • You can now either select an automatic backup under system, use a manual backup under Manual or Create a backup under Manual and use that to overwrite your test environment (Screenshot)
  • Select a backup of your choosing
  • Click on the 3 dots next to the record name (Screenshot)
  • Click on Restore
  • Select the environment you want to overwrite. This should be the Test Environment.
    • If the Test Environment was not set to the Sandbox Type before, this will not work
  • Click on Restore (Screenshot)
  • Confirm
  • The system will now start to overwrite the environment. This may take a while.
  • After this is done you can reset the Type of the Test environment back to production, if you wish
  • Now go to the HR HUB of your Test Environment
  • Activate your License, following this Tutorial

Hint

  • This process completely deletes the data the Test environment contained before
