Skill measurement configuration

Objective

This page describes how you can configure skills and skill grades in Hubdrive.

Skills are the competence, knowledge, aptitude and prerequisite for carrying out an activity - e.g. language skills, technical skills, or social competence.

Skill Grades are a description of the knowledge levels a Skill can be divided into - e.g. beginner, intermediate, and expert.

Skills and Skill Grades can be combined and assigned as a Skill Level to a Job Profile, a Training, or a Review. This way, you can define the knowledge set needed for a specific job, which competences are achievable by attending a certain Training, or the knowledge increase agreed upon with an employee during their yearly Review.

The following picture illustrates the relationship between Skill, Skill Grade, and Skill Level:

We have separate tutorials on how to use Skill Levels in Recruiting, Training & eLearning, and Talent Management. Furthermore, you can find more information on the holistic use of skills in Hubdrive here.

On this page, you learn how to create Skills, how to create Skill Grades, and how to connect them.

Prerequisites

  • You are HR Manager

Click Through

Step 1: Create Skills
  • Start in HR HUB
  • In the lower left corner, switch from Overview to Settings
  • Under Talent Management, click on Skills
  • Click on +New
  • Give the skill a name (e.g. Business English) and assign a type (e.g. Language Skill)
  • Save & Close
  • Repeat those steps until all Skills you need are listed

Step 2: Create Skill Grades

  • Start in HR HUB
  • In the lower left corner, switch from Overview to Settings
  • Under Talent Management, click on Skill Grades
  • Click on +New
  • Assign a name (e.g. A1), a rating (e.g. "0" - for the lowest category), and select a type (e.g. Language Classification)
    • In Rating, you assign an evaluation number between 0 and 10 to the Skill Grade. The higher the rating, the better the skill.
    • This Rating enables you to automatically compare the required and the actual skill grade later.
  • Save & Close
  • Create more grades until you have a complete logic (e.g. A2 - 1, B1 - 2, B2 - 3, C1 - 4, C2 - 5).
  • Repeat those steps until Skill Grades for all your Skills have been created.
    • Skill Grades can be used multiple times. For example, you can create Skill Grades for languages (A1 - C2) once, then use them for any language you want to manage as skill. It is only necessary to create more Skill Grades if you have Skills you want to measure differently (e.g. you may also want to create 'Beginner', 'Advanced' and 'Professional' for technical skills.)

Step 3: Connect Skills and Skill Grades

  • Start in HR HUB
  • In the lower left corner, switch from Overview to Settings
  • Under Talent Management, click on Skills
  • Open a Skill you created earlier
  • On the right side, you see a table called Skill Grades
  • In this table, click on the three dots in the top right corner and select Add Existing Skill Grade
  • Start typing or click on the magnifying glass icon to look for the Skill Grades that match the Skill
  • Click on the fitting Skill Grade to add it
  • Continue until you have added all needed Skill Grades for this Skill
  • Click on Add at the bottom
  • Then Save & Close the Skill record
  • Repeat those steps until all your created Skills have been connected to the correct Skill Grades
